Beaver Slumber night
Written by Lorraine Byrne
Sunday, 04 December 2011

40 beavers from Monday and Tuesday night took part in a slumber night event held in the scout den last Halloween weekend.

The evening started with the beavers getting a demonstration on some backwoods cooking in the back yard of the scout den where the leaders showed how to make “Egg in Orange” and “Egg in Spud” and while they were cooking in the fire the beavers got down to work getting their apples cored and filled them with marshmallows and chocolate before wrapping them up in tinfoil and then baking them in the fire.  They also got to make some sandwiches of digestive biscuits and melted marshmallow.  So a nice lesson on backwoods cooking with some treats at the end for all and the rain stayed off which was great!

Venture Scouts take on Dublin City
Written by Dylan Clarke
Tuesday, 18 October 2011

Last Friday 15 Venture Scouts from 3rd Monaghan Scout Group Carrickmacross went to 4th Port Dodder Scout Den, Ringsend, Co. Dublin for the weekend. The trip started off with the bus breaking down on the motorway and after waiting for around an hour another bus came and we were on the road again. Our delayed trip meant that we reached our destination later than expected but never the less we set up camp and headed off to bed, lacking the knowledge of what task we would have to accomplish when we awoke the next day.
