The group has this week formally announced the purchase of a group campsite on Coillte lands at Dun an Ri forest park. This marks the end of an almost ten year search for a local campsite and marks the beginning of a new and exciting era for the group in this, it's 75th anniversary year.

Efforts behind the scenes in recent years have finally bourne fruit in the form of a site approximately 1.2 acres in area on the edge of Dun an Ri. Serviced by a forestry road and close to water, the site is ideally situated and can potentially be used by all sections for activities ranging from Beaver days out to multi-night scout and venturer camps.

A campsite sub-comittee has formed for the purpose of drafting and overseeing the development of the site. Initial plans have a focus on preparing the site for camping with later phases focusing on a permanent structure for storage and weather protection as well as a beaver play area.

Site purchase and development costs over the next 18 months are estimated at approximately €80,000. The group Parents & Friends comittee, under chairman Bernard Marron, have swung in to action to raise funds for this purpose. The first event is a major Golf Classic planned for May 11th this year.

Further details can be found in the official group press release. A meeting to provide full details to parents is planned for Feburary 21st at 8.30. We have also added a campsite section to the site (see Tabs at top) where regular progress reports will be posted. There is also now a facility whereby website visitors may make a donation to the campsite fund.
