The Cub Parent & Child camp brought our cub year to an end over the weekend of 11/12/13th June. Click on the PLAY button below to see some photos from the weekend.
Cubs camped out on Friday night and had a day full of activities on Saturday that included Rounders and Volleyball competitions as well as observation, pioneering and teamwork bases amoungst others.
Saturday morning saw a link visit from the beavers who are moving to cubs next year. The beavers took part in activities with the cubs and then ran the assault course as a formal welcome to the adventurous world of cub scouting.
After a hearty stew on Saturday evening, parents arrived on site and settled in to the rythym of camp. An hours fun and games broke the ice and was followed by a short (and welcome) break for the campsite blessing ceremony.
Afterwards, a gentle game of stalking was held in the woods followed by some hot chocolate and and a signsong around the campfire.
Sunday morning saw parents and cubs engaged in tree climbing, a run on the assault course, tracking and backwoods cooking. With activities finished, it only remained to break camp, distributed badges and awards and head for home.
The cub leader team would like to thank all of the leaders who helped out over the weekend both from the cub section and others. Thanks also to the venturers and their leaders who were invaluable in their assistance in setting up camp on Friday.
Special thanks to Philip McDermott and the campsite team for ensuring the site looked fantastic and for all the work on the new toilet block. Group QM Aidan Irwin for helping with set-up and all the gear requirements as well as Group Leader Liam Murray for double jobbing as leader and parent.
Particular thanks to cub leader wives Elaine & Joan who helped keep the show on the road throughout the weekend.
Thanks to group chaplin Fr. Michael Jordan for the blessing ceremony and to all who took part as readers etc. There was a special welcome for GLs from neighbouring groups in Kingscourt and Magheracloone as well as members of our own group council and Parents & Friends committee (past & present) who have worked so hard to make sure we have a fantastic campsite for now and the future.
And finally, a special thanks to all participating cubs and especially their parents who took part in the event very much in the spirit of scouting. Roll on 2013 and the next Parent & Child camp! |
