Camp 2011 (Cubs & Beavers) Print E-mail

This year we are considering a Group Camp whereby Scouts, Cubs & Beavers would camp together. We are seeking Beaver & Cub parental feedback on this idea.

Please read the following and let us know if you would be interested in your cubs/beavers attending. (this note has been updated with responses to some initial parental feedback).

CAMP PLANS
Scouts have planned Annual Camp for 8-17th July at the Roscommon Scout County Campsite located in Lough Key Forest Park, Roscommon..

The idea would be for Beavers & Cubs to attend on the first weekend of the camp (probably for Friday & Saturday nights, perhaps longer for Cubs). It would be an ideal opportunity for the older members of each section to do link events with the next sections that they will be joining in Sept. It also gives the younger members a great insight into standing camps.

As well as scouting activities, members would have access to Lough Key facilities such as the adventure park, visitor centre etc.

Costs for the Beaver & Cub elements need to be finalised but would be in the order of €50-60 per member including transport, food, events etc. Likely less for beavers.

Our initial note indicated pricing of €80 which was an inital estimate. Feedback has indicated this as expensive and on review we feel new figures are more realistic. Costs may be reduced further if parents feel they would prefer drop and pick up youth members.

As a point of comparison, camp fees for the 2009 cub JamOige event in Navan were €90.

It should be noted that, regardless of whether the younger members attend this camp, there will be an opportunity for them to camp out locally earlier in the year.

At this point, we're gauging interest in participation to allow us decide if we should go ahead with the full planning of this event.

If going ahead, there will be one or more parents meetings well in advance.

LET US KNOW
We need to determine interest in this event in order to make provisional bookings. As we have no meeting next week due to mid term, we would be grateful if you could text your provisional interest to 087 2453192 indicating numbers of cubs & beavers. Even if you’re not interested, please let us know.

This is not in any way a final commitment.
