Carrick Scouts brave the waters of Greaghlone Lake again for their annual Triathlon

On Saturday morning the 14th of May, Greaghlone Lake near Carrickmacross and the surrounding area was overrun by 3rd Monaghan Carrickmacross Scouts. It was the location for the second annual Tri-Greaghlone, to raise funds for Carrick Cancer Society and their annual camp being held in Lough Keel Campsite near Boyle in Co. Roscommon.

The event was organised and run by the Rover Scout section and this year two events were run to widen the net and get more people out and about. A Triathlon consisting of a 200m swim, 16km cycle & a 5km run and a duathlon consisting of a 16km cycle & a 5km run.

Monaghan Sub Aqua Club and the local Civil Defence were on hand to make sure everyone who took part in the event were safe, many thanks for their hard work on the day.

The event was a great success with over 30 people taking part this year, ranging from Scout right through to the young at heart!! A total of €1,000 was raised for Carrick Cancer society.

We would also like to thank all those who took part and the following business who donated prizes, food and their time free of charge to the event. Carrick Cycle Centre for donating some fabulous prizes, Quinn’s Supermarket for the delicious hamper of food and The Outdoor Exchange in Dundalk for more prizes. We would also like to thank Monaghan Sub Aqua for their assistance on the water and also Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre for the lend of the wetsuits.
