40 beavers from Monday and Tuesday night took part in a slumber night event held in the scout den last Halloween weekend.

The evening started with the beavers getting a demonstration on some backwoods cooking in the back yard of the scout den where the leaders showed how to make “Egg in Orange” and “Egg in Spud” and while they were cooking in the fire the beavers got down to work getting their apples cored and filled them with marshmallows and chocolate before wrapping them up in tinfoil and then baking them in the fire. They also got to make some sandwiches of digestive biscuits and melted marshmallow. So a nice lesson on backwoods cooking with some treats at the end for all and the rain stayed off which was great!

Then it was time to go inside and get the tents up and help the beavers get their sleeping bags and mats rolled out and ready for later on. We had a short disco and then we all watched Rio on the big screen with popcorn and hot chocolate served up during the movie.

After the film it was bedtime and after lots of chatting in the tents there was eventually silence, except for the odd bit of snoring!!!
Beavers were up bright and early on Saturday morning looking forward to the fun filled activity day which lay ahead for them out in Dun A Ri, but before that they all had their breakfast, packed up their bags and waited for their parents to take them out to Dun a Ri.

Plenty of fun and games set up by 6th Cavan Beaver Group (Kingscourt) for all the beavers in the county, from carving pumpkins to decorating fairy cakes, playing bingo to rope climbing and eyeball racing..... there was plenty of fun for all the beavers and we were so lucky the rain stayed away.

By 2pm when the event came to an end there were plenty of tired beavers (and leaders) looking forward to going home. But we all had a great time and well done to all the beavers for staying overnight especially those new beavers. We will be looking forward to the next overnight which will be outdoors at our campsite in the Spring.
