On Saturday the 26th of November all the Cub scouts from both Monday and Tuesday night met at the Scout Hall at 8.45 a.m. We packed all the gear and rucksacks into Bob’s van. All 42 of us and the 8 leaders headed on our journey!

CLick on read more to see how we got on.
The bus stopped at the park in Carlingford and we hoped off. We then put on our wet gear and headed off on our looooooong trek! We took 2 breaks and then we had our lunch- we were all starving. It started to rain very heavily then. We broke into 2 groups the younger cubs and the Chief Cubs. Liam, Colm, Bob and Dearbhla went with the Chief Scouts and Lisa, Peter, Mark, Nora and Rachel went with all the other cubs.
The Chief scouts set off on the rest of their journey to the highest part of the Cooley Mountains. The rest of us headed the other way to go back to the hall. When we had walked about 10 mins it started to get very very windy and then the hail stones started- it felt like some one was throwing stones at us at a 100 miles an hour. L We had to all huddle together to try get some shelter. Because it was so so so windy we had to go down a different way than planned – oh NO! Our short journey back to the hall turned into a much longer one than planned! We fought on though. Eventually we arrived back at the hall after trekking through loads and loads of mud, to find that the Chief Cubs had bet us back! Well done guys. Both groups did so well – the chief Cubs covered 10km and the rest of the cubs did almost 9 km. Fair play everyone we did great. J
When we got back we unloaded the van and finally got out of our damp clothes. We all dried up and got served some lovely hot soup .........yummy! We played some Dodge ball to warm ourselves up and guess what we bet the leaders!!!! After dinner we all got changed into our comfy pyjamas. We lay down and started to watch the DVD’s. Frank made us the yummiest hot chocolate EVER..........Thanks Frank! We spoke for a short time then and we fell fast asleep.
The next morning we woke the leaders up at 7- they were not impressed at all. We had our breakfast and started to pack up and clean the hall up. We arrived back in Carrick at 11.30. We had a great weekend and we all did so well. I bet everyone had a great nights sleep Sunday night! J |
