From time to time, the council recognises special acheivements and,
with the recent award of the order of Cu Chulainn, one of Scouting
Ireland's highest honours,it was felt that Jimmy was more than deserving of such recognition.
GL Jimmy Cunningham At the special presentation ceremony, Carrickmacross UDC chairman, Cllr. Matt McCarthy, on behalf of the council, paid tribute to Jimmy's work with scouts and other groups in the town, commenting that wherever any significant gathering of young people was to be found, Jimmy was probably involved as well. Cllr. McCarthy went on to thank Jimmy for his contribution to scouting and the town.
Cllr. Matt McCarthy presents the award In addition to a personal award, Jimmy was presented with a Certificate of Achievement for the 3rd Monaghan Scout Group. Cllr. McCarthy noted that the group was this year celebrating it's 75th anniversary and the award was not only for Jimmy but for all leaders past and present who helped the group grow over the years. Special mention was made of the groups involvement in the St. Patricks day parade and the annual splash of colour it brings to the occasion.
In accepting the award, Jimmy thanked all the groups leaders and committee members and accepted the award on their behalf. A further news report can be read on carrickmacross.ie .
